I like the mixture idea myself.  It's also the most difficult to do, since
the SGML tools don't output that kind of content.  And looking at the html
they generate, I can't just cut-n-paste them together either. :(   I'll
work it out.

As for splitting up the doc into parts.  While I can understand why you
would want that, I have no clue how to index that in the search engine
correctly.   Thoughts anyone?
