2.2.12-6 is the 6th iteration of the Red Hat 6.1 kernel which is based on
2.2.12.  RH and VA like to tweak the kernel a little bit for various
reasons.

VA actually bases their kernels on the RH kernels.  I don't really konw
what RH does to them, but I know VA adds patches so that the kernel runs
better on their hardware (often the lastest DAC960 or SymBios driver
doesn't make it into the lastest stable kernel).
