In my practical experience, amd athlon64/opterons seem to handle tor
with far less percent cpu than my various xeons.  I don't know exactly
why.  I can guess it has to do with how the amd core handles the crypto
functions in relation to branch prediction and sheer core speed. Perhaps
Amd has faster hamsters in their cpus than intel.  

In reality, you could run your tor node on a via c7 chip with 512mb ram 
powered by a solar panel most likely; given your bandwidth plans.

:   My service provider will most likely be Comcast cable broadband. 

Be aware that running servers violates the Comcast terms of service.
