Thank you for the info.
However, I would like to set up my own directory server on a real network (PuppeTor is only a simulation). I could not find the source code or the binary where I can compile and deploy my own directory server, where my own Tor ORs will contact.
Any ideas if that is possible?

There is an own config option (DirServer) that you can use to override
the hardcoded dir servers.
If you want to play around with your own directory, you may want to use
PuppeTor which was designed to run your own Tor network on a local
machine. It manages all the necessary configurations for you. You can
download it from the SVN repository.
