RE: [pygame] More Pygame Articles...

Gareth,

Great article. Really great.

And you are an XML architect too. Your use of XML related technologies
in Civil are fascinating. I do xml/web app development by day (and night
these days) also. Python certainly provides access to the latest and
varied ways of doing things. But, doesnt it come down to speed? Isnt
that what say most game hackers at the studios for Activision or
THQ or wherever would say. They use C to get down to a lower level to
get more from the hardware?

This seems likely if developing for PC - since its hardware is so bungled
at this point (in terms of data throughput), but does their argument really
hold any water when dealing with development for P2, Gamecube or xbox?

I mean really none of those developers are trying to fit a whole game
on 3 - 3 1/2 inch floppy disks! And they have console power
out the wazooo.

So, can python/pygame/and supporting community make those
game developers (or have they already?) see that Python gives them coding
speed and could easily be used to glue together an optimized C library if
need
be - to get performance for a particular of a game? How does SDL really
compare
with other native Directmedia layers?

And Python is so suited for the evolving handheld game market - thinking
more
next-gen pda/cel phone market // not nintendo gba - has anyone seen what
Amiga
is up to recently with their DE portable / virtual processor os?

What if you could take:

PYTHON ===> JYTHON ===> Java bytecode ===> Use Amiga SDK to get Amiga VP
code?

Instant rapid game development and I would think a very optimized
application
size wise and access to VARIOUS delivery outlets...

Again, thanks for the article...

Take care,

David Kovach

Hi,

Apologies if this is old news (I've been moving
house, and bar this coffee shop, I'm still 'net-
less), but there's another pygame related
article online:

http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/python/2001/12/
20/pygame.html

Although it was nothing to to with me.
Honest...
