I agree. In my case, my first useful app was Dkus, an extended version of
du; in 150 LOC Python. I also had some projects with stranded very early:
Discoverb (learn foreign words and phrases), and another project. Now,
however, I've started programming Brian, which should become a platform
game, and I'm going well.

Indeed: Games are fun, especially platform games, especially Commander Keen.
However, programming C is not fun, and programming DOS seems to be a hell
(according to Andy "Linux is Obsolete" Tanenbaum ;). Promming Python Is Fun...
