Ah, here's my problem. I've just got the latest CVS code, but I can't
install it afaics, because it needs the distutils and they haven't been
packaged for Debian for python2, only for Python 1.{52,6}. Debian
people who are compiling pygame from source, how are you installing it?
Perhaps I'm just being thick here. 

I'm going to try using Joost's newly uploaded deb for unstable that
I've just noticed, but it needs an apt-get upgrade first to get the
latest libc6, and upgrades take *ages* on my 33k6 modem :( I'll let you
know about the tests below when I can get a running version of
CVS pygame...
