I used PyOgre for a while, and was impressed with its ease of use... That
is, until I wanted to do something outside the scope of the tutorial. Maybe
I just highly suck at scraping away at the required tutorial class to find
the absolute minimum required code to make it go.

Regarding Panda3D: How is it "scary"? I downloaded it as my next engine to
toy with, but haven't got around to installing it yet.

As for your mentions of 2D, I'm almost 90% certain I'm going to go with a
top-down idea for my grand experiment, since it won't require me to actually
build 3D models, and like someone else mentioned in another email: look at
Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. There are some really great 16 by 16
sprite tile tutorials out there so your grass tiles don't look all crappy
(about two hours work got me a set of about 16 tiles -

3D may be the big thing, but I think unless you're already a 3D modelling
person, it's best to stick to 2D.
