I agree, it would be a huge undertaking.  As much as I'm tempted to
start coding it up, I realize that it would almost certainly never get
finished and be a waste of effort.  But it's fun to think about!  And
I really am tempted to code on it.

I'd be supportive of such a project, particularly if it supported creation of something other than Pong/Breakout/Arkanoid/Mario/Tetris/Gradius clones. I'm all for those kinds of games, but quite frankly, I think that they have been done to death.

I'd be HIGHLY supportive if it supported making a game like Willow (NES), or like The Secret of Mana (SNES)/Sword of Mana (GBA)/Final Fantasy Adventure (GB), though. :D

Maybe even an turn-based RPG game instead of the … whatever type The Secret of Mana is. :)
