Thanks for the somewhat of an endorsement, Les. :-)
I'll second that Rob Wall's blog (listed below) is also a 
good choice.

Peter Rock's blog (http://gnuosphere.blogspot.com/) is one 
that looks at open source/free software but with a more 
societal/political view. Peter's from Alberta, but now 
teaching in Africa and has a unique perspective.
