Re: [school-discuss] Linux in Education Workshop

hello,

hope this is of use :

create UML design documents : ---> http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia/
Dia is a gtk+ based diagram creation program released under the GPL license.

Dia is designed to be much like the commercial Windows program 'Visio'. It can
be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special
objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts,
network diagrams, and simple circuits. It is also possible to add support for
new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the
shape.

It can load and save diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to
save space), can export diagrams to EPS or SVG formats and can print diagrams
(including ones that span multiple pages).

The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed
piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image
composition and image authoring. This site contains information about
downloading, installing, using, and enhancing GIMP. This site also serves as
a distribution point for the latest releases, patches, plugins, and scripts.
We also try to provide as much information about the GIMP community and
related projects as possible.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Audacity is a free audio editor. You can record sounds, play sounds, import
and export WAV, AIFF, and MP3 files, and more. Use it to edit your sounds
using Cut, Copy and Paste (with unlimited Undo), mix tracks together, or
apply effects to your recordings. It also has a built-in amplitude envelope
editor, a customizable spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis window for
audio analysis applications. Built-in effects include Bass Boost, Wahwah, and
Noise Removal, and it also supports VST plug-in effects.

Audacity version 1.0.0 is the most stable version we have released yet, and
many people have found that its unique features and intuitive interface make
it more enjoyable to use than other audio editors, including commercial ones.

The developers of Audacity have also released version 1.1.0, which is a
beta-quality preview of new things we are actively working on. It contains
many, many new features, but is not quite as polished and stable.

SoX is the Swiss Army knife of sound processing tools. It converts audio
files among various standard audio file formats and can apply different
effects and filters to the audio data.

LAME (LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder) is a research project for learning about and
improving MP3 encoding technoligy. LAME includes an mp3 encoding library,
simple front end application, a much-improved psycho-acoustic model
(GPSYCHO), and a graphical frame analyzer (MP3x). Please note that any
commercial use (including distributing the LAME encoding engine in a free
encoder) may require a patent license from Thomson Multimedia.
