When I used Slackware,
I frequently had to install packages from source. Not
only is it a good way to be familiar with what software is on your
computer, it's also something every Linux administrator should
know how to do.

I install programs from source all the time. It's a good way to get to know exactly what's on your system. Plus, I use a lot of programs that I've customized or patched, so they need to be built from source. If you're building a Linux from Scratch system the whole system is built from source. Slackware users often build packages from source. Would imagine things would be similar for Gentoo and other distributions that are concerned about source code and customization. ### To unsubscribe from the schoolforge-discuss mailing list: Send an e-mail message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with no subject and a body of "unsubscribe schoolforge-discuss" |
