Besides NASA, NOAA and FWS there is USGS (United States Geological 
Survey).

The best place of all is Wikipedia 
http://en/wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page There are thousands and 
thousands of pictures (I've uploaded hundreds of them myself). There at 
least GFDL. Check the picture. Many of them are also licensed with a 
Creative Commons license or put in the public domain.
