[school-discuss] [IIEP] please provide feedback on e-learning definition v1.1

Yeyer, I see the drawback of using "Internet and browser" to describe =
what people use to interact. Thank you for pointing this out to me. =
Accordingly, I propose the following revised definition of e-learning:=20
"E-learning is defined as the use of a teaching method, a universal =
network, and learning objects to channel the interactions among =
students, teachers, and other stakeholders for the purpose of students =
acquiring knowledge or skill.=20

This e-learning definition has four salient attributes. First, students =
acquire knowledge or skill by interacting with teachers, teaching =
assistants, knowledge producers, and other stakeholders. Differences in =
people's skills, motivations, and cultures are important in e-learning.=20

Second, people interact using universal wireline and wireless networks. =
E-learning requires people to use universal networks to instantly =
update, store, retrieve, share, and produce information. The use of =
non-networked devices or systems to learn (e.g., CD-ROMs, DVDs, =
simulations that lack network capability) is not e-learning. Non-network =
systems and devices support learning, but are not e-learning.

Third, the teaching method is more than one-way information delivery. =
Therefore, e-learning is more than computer-, Web- and Internet-based =
training.

Fourth, core to e-learning are the people who define the teaching =
methods, design the learning objects, guide the interactions among =
teachers and students, and build, support and evolve the organizational =
information systems required.=20

It is wise that we agree on some definition of e-learning before we =
start the discussion on solutions for e-learning. If we dont agree, at =
least we need to understand the reasons why we cant agree on what we =
mean by e-learning.

   An article at =

598 seems to disagree with the notion that only traditional networked =
environments are capable of E-Learning delivery, the article sites =
mobile phones and PDA's as tools also capable of delivering knowledge =
content. Personally, I think E-learning definition is evolving, and I =
see a very significant role for static and well as dynamic contents. I =
also see potential capabilities=20
in Wireless technologies, and even with the TV (once is becomes =
completly interactive)
