Re: [school-discuss] Website

Laura,

Here is how to find the content within the current site: https://schoolforge.net/sitemap.xml

That would indicate it's there so I'm fairly confident we could do something with that. The HTML/export was set up using a view that was basically like a web listing, except that 'paging' was turned off so that it made everything into one continuous list.

I've been wanting to extract the software listings content for a while now, but haven't been able to access it.  We did have a procedure to create one large HTML page with all the information.  In that format, it could easily be converted to other formats.  If you can get me a copy of the software listing data, I'd really appreciate it.  Worst case scenario, we could convert to PDF and share it that way to avoid more attacks.

The person who runs our PHP group mentioned that he has his wordpress sites attacked at least a few times a year.  He created scripts to automatically back up the site each night.  Then he ran a md5sum on the backups and checked to see if there were differences.  If there was a difference (and he had not updated his pages), he knew there was an issue and he restored from the last valid backup.  Thought it was a clever way to handle the situation.

Agree the schoolforge.net site could have an impactful presence.  Anything we can do to scale back or automate so it's not so much work to upkeep, but still get useful informaiton out to people?  Thanks.

Sincerely,
Laura

Hi all,

I noticed that the website was down and saw that it got hit by Drupalgeddon 😰. Apologies to David and LM, especially to LM whom had put a lot of effort into the software listings.

I take the responsibility here for setting up the site and then putting my focus into other projects and not being available to keep the site maintained. It's quite a bit of effort to keep Drupal sites up to date and polished, and when issues and vulnerabilities are found they come fast and before you know it, your website is mining some kind of cryptocoins.

I've put together a little html page that can welcome people to the list from some of the content from the site. Here is a screen capture of a very simply themed welcoming page.

For the effort LM put in, I would ask if there is anything I can do - the content that was entered into the Drupal site is still there. We could export it, and put it into static pages, or find some way to salvage if that is desired.

I think the schoolforge.net effort is a diamond in the rough and with the right resources it could have an impactful presence. We were getting #2-3 top search result listings in so many categories for educational software when I had the ability to keep a sustained effort on analytics.
