Folks -
As may or may not have heard on some radio stations recently, the BSA
(Business Software Alliance) group is in or will be in the Salt Lake
City area to conduct software audits
(http://www.bsa.org/usa/press/newsreleases//2002-05-01.1078.phtml). This
group evidently provides companies the opportunity to prove software
license legitimacy. If installed software has not been legitimately
purchased, they can fine up to $100,000 per incident and possible
federal prison time for the guilty party(ies).
IT will be in contact with every department and Instructional Program
this week, Thursday and Friday, to ensure proper software licensing
procedures have been followed. Each lab instructor is responsible for
software licensing in his/her own respective lab. IT is responsible for
our DATC standard software which includes: centralized network operating
systems, MS Office 2000 standard edition, BorderManager, GroupWise,
Faxware, Galaxy, and Norton AntiVirus. All other pieces of software that
require a license will be the responsibility of the primary person that
operates that computer. If you cannot provide a license, you will be
asked to remove the software or will be shown how to remove the software
that has been installed as the BSA views it, illegally.
If you have further questions about software piracy, please checkout

Thanks Greg
