[school-discuss] Public Announcement : architecture for the distributed production of internet broadcasts from text materials

hello,

this is the basis for copyrights being filled for new open source software.
this copyright/lic. will allow any vendor outside of Louisiana to use this
software without charge (for non-profits) and for a flat annual lic.
(everywhere else) of a negotiated price. Discounts given for duration of
contract and volume.

maximum discount occurs at cost + 30%.

R & D is 15% of cost, at minimum.

Customer base is any budget constrained public agency with a distribution
problem, where cds are preferable to broadband, because of the enhanced
ability to control costs by using local lans and "hand-to-hand" delivery
systems with cd/dvd as the transport medium.

combining this sort of service with a broadcast facility maximizes cost
efficiencies, stabilizes computer hardware and software budgets, and provides
the ability to handle both real time and scheduled distribution and delivery
of Section 508 and English as a Second Language content in an economical
format that has no platform restrictions.

etc ... is developing software which boots from a cd-rom drive running a
stable RedHat release in console mode, and open a secure connection over ssh
with digital certificates. This is where you get your disk space. it is
likely to be a gutenberg mirror ... they may want to collect fees ... with
20% to gutenberg. We have been distributing bootable CDs for a while, well
~1000 or co in circulation today.

on your client you can have a keyboard, a precussion machine, a teleprompter,
speakers, a microphone, and two CD drives, one of which must be a simple
CD-R. you either built a music platform or a voice/text platform. if you
want to do both :

2 workstations
2 installs, differnt from each other
2 user accounts

oil and water ...

In the CD player, you place the disk created the last time you worked on this
production. in the CD-R, you place a blank CD-R. don't forget to label this
one. it will have a serial number in the cd label.

[eventually, this will be tied to a database.]

at the end of the session, a new CD-R to log in with next time is produced.

while you are editing a production, an IRC connection with real-time
collabrators is available. so you can direct more or less "on the fly".

when you start up the teleprompter, a text with the contributor's notes
scrolls on the screen [or you can read/edit it in vi or [locally, later]
g/kedit or notepad ] --- anyone on irc with you will be live on the
microphone and speakers.

if you press the BIG BUTTON which goes "HONK-HONK", the session is being
recorded and the Big Red Dot appears. One more click, and the Big Black Dot
says "i stopped recording".

because we are supporting keyboards (midi) and percussion machines --
you can incorporate a sound track. stereo and mono are supported.

you can ask for re-play. and join each other in a listening session.

this is pretty much the normal way of doing business in a studio.

later on, high quality 3D animation (probably pixar) will be used to organize
"galleries" of material on a dvd, produced by a batch procedure, to order
specifications.

this is the basis of the business plan etc ... intends to declare in the sbir
bid we are placing, in partnership with a local isp, DSI, and the gutenberg
project.

buying non-exclusive rights to works in the Gutenberg Australia archives
for legal use in the U.S. is going to be a line item cost in the proposed
budget, as will be regional broadcast sites.

i beleive this product can differentiate regionally, and create jobs and
revenues whereever it goes - it will breath new life into our mutual efforts.
