That was my impression when I used gettext.

That is exactly what I do, though I still need to hold a day job.

Idiom has recently decided to donate an instance to us for use, but we
have to figure out how to use it first. Also, my translation buddy
(actually my senpai or senior, since he is our official translation
specialist) uses Trados, which seems to be the king in Japan for
translation management. It is really, really complex and really,
really, really expensive... even with educational discount.
