In Switzerland I am having a very hard time finding
educational prices for MS products so I end up having to
pay full price usually, especially since I am working
for an American School in Switzerland (we usually want
things in English).  I estimate that I spend 1000 CHF
for the software we need that's about 800 US dollars. 
Then of course over the life of the computer with
upgrades, etc. I bet the cost is around 1000 US
dollars.
