RAMSTEIN, Germany (Reuters) - Three U.S. soldiers released by Yugoslavia Sunday after 32 days of captivity arrived at a U.S. Air Force base at Ramstein in western Germany, reporters at the base said.
The U.S. army C-9 medical plane touched down at 4:45 p.m. after a flight of about 90 minutes from Zagreb, Croatia.
There were about 200 people and an army honor guard from the soldiers' division, the 1st Infantry Division, at the air base to welcome the soldiers.
The three soldiers -- Steven Gonzales, 22, of Huntsville, Texas, Andrew Ramirez, 24, of Los Angeles, and Christopher Stone, 25, of Smiths Creek, Michigan -- traveled on a U.S. army C-9 medical plane from Zagreb to Ramstein, 150 km (90 miles) west of Frankfurt.
Captured by the Yugoslav army a month ago, they were held for a month before being released to U.S. civil rights leader Jesse Jackson in Belgrade Sunday.
The three soldiers were expected to undergo medical checks and debriefings at Landstuhl, which is about five km (three miles) from Ramstein. They were also expected to be reunited with their families at some point.
