re: SIF

the website does not respond (the last 3 times over a 2 month period) and
the microsoft education site still offers the ZIF server (associated to SIF)
but no links to anything else remotely to do with SIF...  If I were a
betting man, I'd say that this path is going nowhere fast.

re: IMS

They have just released v.1.01 of the Question and Answer XML/DTD
and v. 1.0 of the Packaging XML/DTD

see http://www.imsproject.org

which means all members of IMS agree to write software that accepts data in
those formats for those purposes.  If we write conforming content in those 
XML formats, that content would be usable on their software 
(if we are licenced to use their programs).  

Likewise, if we write conformant software, we can use their data 
(if we are licenced to use their data).

If I were a betting man, I'd say IMS is going places though not at lightning
speeds :-)
