SEUL: Projects to look at/work with

Browsing through the LDP project list, here are some of the projects I've found
that we should try to coordinate with:

http://www.redhat.com/linux-info/pnp/
Plug-and-Play (-and-Pray?): Mainly during installation, and the ability to
handle things like new hardware ("Linux has detected new hardware in your
system and is configuring it." "Done.")

http://babar.mit.edu/LPP/LPP.html
Linux Publicity Project: Marketing will have to work with this group to try
to increase public awareness of SEUL and Linux in general.

http://www.10mb.com/linux/
Linux Advocacy Project: Ditto above.

http://www.asgardpro.com/wine/
WINE: For "legacy" application (read: Windoze app) support.

http://blank.pages.de/lip/
Linux Interface Project: Designing a free widget set for use with Linux,
replacement for Motif, etc. This one's in coding stages, so someone better
contact them ASAP to find out what they have...

http://oloon.student.utwente.nl//~mnemonic/
Mnemonic browser: Possible free replacement for Netscrap. Micro-kernel
based browser, where all the bells and whistles are done by plugins.

http://sunsite.unc.edu/paulc/wurd/
Project Wurd: An SGML-based word processor, with both text-based and GUI
interfaces.

http://www.ecnet.net/users/gfetters/berlin/
Berlin: A replacement windowing system, built on top of GGI, that promises
to be much better than X.

http://syngergy.caltech.edu/~ggi/
Linux-GGI: New console driver that's specifically designed to allow the
fastest possible access to the video subsystem, securely. There's even an X
server that runs on top of it already.

And some that aren't in the LDP:

no URL yet
Linnet: Linux distribution for servers - list has been dead for a week,
nothing beyond initial "which distrib" yet.

http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~s2154962/enlightenment/
Enlightenment Window Manager: A *really cool* window manager. Highly
configurable, highly graphical, *really cool* window manager.

http://www.plig.org/xwinman/
Window Manager survey: A good entry point to a list of all the other window
managers out there. Not a project, just a good link site.

http://scam.xcf.berkeley.edu/~gimp/
GIMP: The GNU Image Manipulation Program is almost at 1.0 (though 0.99.10
segv's constantly on several of my machines), and is reputed to be equivalent
to Photoshop.

http://www.inria.fr/rodeo/personnel/hoschka/asn1.html
ASN.1: A language (of sorts) suggested by someone as the main configuration
syntax (or was that in the Linnet mailing list...? No, that was the
enlightenment list...)

Anyone out there who is interested in any of these projects, please contact
that group and see what their attitude is towards working in the direction of
standardization from project to project, coordinated by SEUL. I may set up a
registry of "ambassadors", those who are the point-of-contact for various
external projects.
