Comment:

 Ok, this is done. I can't apt-get on lemmonii, so I went the wget route.
 The script is attached. The crontab is:
 23 */8 * * * ~/watch.sh

 Which I believe should cause it to check every 8 hours.

 Tested it and it seems to work, at least when run every minute.
