The last time I checked a single production run at a semiconductor fab
costed about 1 million USD (TSMC pricing mid-2000s, at 0.13 micron), and
the initial yield was < 1%. This is not anything remotely affordable.

Is incorrect, in light of dopant-level subversion done at fabrication
