Hopefully you mean using privoxy as an http proxy.

If you turn SafeLogging to 0 in your torrc, it will tell you what address
Tor thought you were asking for. That might help to identify the problem,
e.g. if you're asking to connect to http://24.4.4.4/ rather than 24.4.4.4.
