XARCHON 3D Character Theme going on
Hello,
I don't know if anybody remembers me. I started creating a 3D Character
theme
for XARCHON but I didn't get any farther than creating the dark basilisk
and
banshee which is used in the game right now.
Lately found another way to animate those characters with POV RAY and I
produced a light knight that is fully animated for all eight directions.
I put it on my home page with some additional information and larger
animations, POV RAY scripts to download and two files to patch XARCHON
as well to see the light knight in action. Be careful about the size of
that
page - it might take some loading time until the interesting parts
appear.

I didn't use the option to have another theme because I didn't want to
compile it in this time. Would it be a good idea to make the themes
configurable by file at runtime?
Right now I have too many colours but it works fine on my computer.
If somebody of you could give me a hint how to reduce the colours
without touching every file by hand it might reduce loading time for
the game?
I discovered two major things:
a) the character is pretty fast moving on my computer.
(Pentium 2, 400 MHz, 196 MB Ram) Could that be slowed down?
b) the character is really looking tiny so that You cannot see lots of
details. This is a bit sad because it is looking much more
interesting
with a higher resolution. Would it be possible to expand the size
for characters from 32by32 to 64by64 or 48by48?
For a battle display of 17by13 this would make 1088x832 using 64by64
For a battle display of 17by13 this would make 816x624 using 64by64
Sure it is a problem to scale it beyond 1024x768. I could deliver
any other size between but I don't know if that works for the
program.
Well the last and important point: how fast can I go on with that?
The good news is that right now I have the technology to produce the
animations pretty fast after a character is defined. I guess one
character
takes some hours to some days. I cannot tell you when I will finish this
but I am actively working on it again. I will finish the light side
first.
If anybody is expierienced or motivated helping me he is very welcome
to contact me.
Best regards
