I'm running Slackware 9.1 / 2.4.20 on a P3 850MHz system, and the previous version of gFTP (2.0.16) compiled ok.

Thanks! That worked. And in case anyone else has this problem... the patch needs to be installed in the lib/ subdirectory where you extracted the gFTP source files:

cd gftp-2.0.17pre0
cd lib
patch -p0 < gftp-local-largefile.patch
