Why is Independence free?

It allows us to add in the distrib what we think will be useful for
the users instead of waht will make bigger sales.

Why are you named Independence

It was supposed a provisional name but we forgot to think in a new one
while it was time. However the name carries the spirit of the distrib.

Why are you based on RedHat

Because we needeed a GPLed distribution as base. In addition if we
wanted to make a useful distribution we needed to keep
present that the people we are targetting needs books so we needed to
choose a base distrib you can find books about it in every store even

Why Independence is not based on Debian

Because when we started it looked like using Debian as a atarting
point would be lots of work. Because Debian is not that easy to find
in stores and that means that people would have to download hundreds of
megs of a Debian-based distribution instead of a couple dozens in
order to switch from RedHat to Indy using the RedHat CD they found at
their nearest retailer. Because Debian focused on sysadmins and
hackers while we focus on users of desktop systems and in private
individuals.
