RE: [school-discuss] Off-Topic (sort of): Reasons not to use Google Docs for Education?

College students, computer applications course, basic level.

Very pleased with collaboration possibilities with Google Docs, even within the same computer lab space. I assigned a project to be done with text and spreadsheets. Students can see changes that others make, talk about plans of techniques to try, and then see the results immediately. It results in a pleasant hum of interaction, with occasional comments and laughter. This also can be carried over into different times and places, but still collaborating and developing as teams.

(In a faculty meeting of Business colleagues, I suggested that Google Docs be used to develop, with collaboration, a position paper that had been requested. The first response was "we need training before we can use something new.....". Sigh)

Side-tracked by the juggernaut that is Google ...

Dear Colleagues,

I know many of you have been through this and that there's a lot out
there on this, but, as I value your perspectives, I'd love to hear
them: why not Google Apps (and mail) for schools?

If you've got an experience or a comment, I'd be grateful to read it.

Thank you,

David
