Someone was asking about programs for controlling instruments in a lab,
specifically Vernier brand ones.  I just saw on <http://freshmeat.net> an
announcement for SampLin, which appears to be a toolkit for doing exactly
that.  I also saw on <http://www.gnome.org> in their software map that Bruce
Perens is planning to develop something he's calling GINA to be a GNU
instrument interface.
