A Case Study

Take Caldera. Their original Network Desktop was based on Red Hat linux.
They had a custom (better) installation, a custom desktop device ( Looking
Glass ) and a thing called LISA for sysadmin functions.

WIth OpenLinux, they diverged from Red Hat. They still use the rpm
package manager and an OpenLinux user can (and they often DO) install
packages from Red Hat provided their system meets the dependancy
requirements of the package that they are installing. Caldera offers
certain optimizations that they think are best in their packages but the
user is still capable of installing any Red Hat package because the
environment will support it.

To that extent, it will be possible for a Debian user to install a SEUL
package or a SEUL user to install a Debian package since they will share a
packaging format and as long as the dependancies are met, the package
should perform as expected.
