I can tell you why *I* prefer case-sensitivity. It makes sense. 'A' is simply not the same thing as 'a'. Even in something as imprecise as the English language, they are used differently. Making things insensitive to case involves expending effort to reduce accuracy...and that really seems dumb to me.
