Of course there can be differences between debian and fedora -- I think
installing from git sources is more for advanced users. It was my hope
that the linked tread gives you some pointers. I can not really help you
because I use gentoo linux, where I can install gEDA 1.4.3 and all
dependencies from source with the portage package manager by one simple
command: "emerge -av geda".
