The ppm background still does not work, but I just rediscovered the utility
pstoedit to convert postscript to pcb tracks. Just added this bit of
information to the tips&tricks section of the wiki
(http://geda.seul.org/wiki/geda:pcb_tips#how_do_i_import_external_vector_graphics)
