gEDA-user: newbie footprint argument Q

Question from a newbie:

In the tutorial at
http://www.geda.seul.org/docs/current/tutorials/gsch2pcb/tutorial.html

For the TL072 op amp, instructions are:
"For the opamps, edit the already existing footprint attribute to be DIL 8
300. Yes, include those spaces because DIL is a m4 element that takes two
args. We're telling it to make a dual in line package with 8 pins in a 300
mil package."

To what does the 300 refer?  I've downloaded the TLO72 specs pdf from
Mouser, and studying the diagram, I can't find any measurement that matches
300 mil of anything anywhere.

...and... is there a help file somewhere that lists the args of elements and
to what they correspond?
