Re: gEDA-user: CD ISO install Issues

ok...here are the details.  I'm using the Fedora Core 5 distro with all the latest patches applied to all apps, kernel, etc.  The kernel version is 2.6.17-2174smp.  The version of Guile that I currently have installed (after attempting to update again after installing gEDA) is labeled as "5:1.6.7-6.i386".  Here is a "cut and paste of the error message that PgAdmin3 gives me in a terminal window attempt to launch it:

[arthur@in ~]$ pgadmin3
Fatal Error: Mismatch between the program and library build versions detected.  The library used 2.6 (no debug,Unicode, compiler with C++ ABI 1002,wx containers, compatible with 2.4), and your program used 2.6 (no debug,Unicode, compiler with C++ ABI 1002,wx containers, compatible with 2.2,compatible with 2.4).
Aborted.

This began happening as a direct result of installing gEDA only.  I'm about ready to back up all my work and reinstall FC5 from scratch.

Perhaps the issue is not guile but the flags you used in compiling several modules.  In that case perhaps reinstalling FC5 isn't such a bad idea.  Please let me know when you have this fixed.

Sincerely,

Arthur Baldwin

Arthur,

Thanks for your bug report. However, without some basic info your
report is useless. If you are intersted in submitting a real,
actionable bug report, please provide the following information:

* The CD version number.
* Your Linux distro and version (e.g. Fedora Core 3, SuSE 9.3, or
whatever)
* Some explanation about why you thought you needed to copy
everything to the hard drive. That is, what happened leading you
to take this step?

Also, it would be interesting to know what version of guile is
required by PgAdmin. The version on the CD is fairly recent (either
1.6.7 or 1.6.4 IIRC), so if PgAdmin is using something newer, we'd
like to know.

Thanks,

Stuart

What I did not expect to encounter was the need to copy everything from the CD to the HDD before being able to run the "installer" script. In addition, once it properly installed, I could no longer use PgAdmin3 because the guile library was changed by gEDA to a much older version, breaking PgAdmin's ability to run. I understand your desire to keep the modules of the gEDA Project separate at this point, but these issues are really annoying to me and cause me to want to not bother trying to use gEDA for now.
