gEDA-user: How do I get a B-size sheet?

I'm new to gEDA, so I've read everything I could find (and Google IS my 
friend), and it seems that if I want a B-size sheet in gschem to use for 
my schematics then I should have a gschemrc file in my ($HOME)/.gEDA 
directory that contains the line:

(paper-size 17.0 11.0)

and that should do it. So I start up gschem and the console output tells 
me it read the gschemrc file in ($HOME)/.gEDA, but the desired effect 
does not occur. Am I doing the right thing?

I'm using Mac OS X (10.4.10) with X11 v1.1.3 and gschem v1.0.1-20070626.
