Just curious. I would have thought that you would have to
deal with inverting the Y dimension any time you had to
go between those two domains

Because the origin of the world coordinate space is in the lower
left hand corner and screen coords origin is in the upper left corner.
I don't know how else to answer your question, other than that's just the
way things are... Is there something specific related to this you need?
Screen coords aren't really useful to anybody, except me when I'm
debugging rendering issues.
