Stuart, thanks a lot for your help.  Glad it's on the web (now?) too.  

I just installed the whole suite of 20050820 from sources and found the
dependency flagging--or rather release-code matching--to be very informative
in the process.  Whoever is responsible for that--well done!

For a beginner, this was very reassuring.
