The default footprint library of pcb is a minimal, essentially non-
maintained, historically grown set. As such, there are many shortcomings 
and stumbling blocks. Some of which you just discover. However, there is
searchable database of user-provided footprints:
	http://www.gedasymbols.org/ 
Search for "bridge" yields a footprint drawn by Levente Kovacs.
Mine don't contain the term "bridge" but the manufacturer "Diotec":
