editres is your friend.

Or, grep for the color it is in Pcb.ad.in or ~/.Xdefaults.

xv can tell you what color it is.

Also, zoom way out and see if you have a component or something that's
covering the whole board.  Or, do "info->object summary" on the black
and see if it's a something rather than the background.
