gEDA-user: PCB net-highlighting difficulties.

I did a board this morning using pcb. A fine experience.

I've found that I have to hit 'F' all the time to un-highlight the active net.
What can I do to just go back to a neutral board/layout after completing a
trace (without extra keystrokes?) Am I missing something?

Also, the way that the F/F2 tools highlight traces on multiple layers if
they're connected is totally disorienting. This feature is great, but how do
I prevent it from matting all the layers into one big green blob when I try to
draw a delicate trace, besides turning off all but the active layer, which is
an even bigger compromise.

((If you have some polygon conductors and some traces overlapping them on
multiple layers, this functionality makes all the layers instantly illegible
in the process of drawing a trace. I run into it all the time.))

I'm running 20050609.
