I don't oppose, and what you suggest does may sense. The only down-side is the need to update documentation, and to think twice about what you tell some new user... what version are you using? --> Lock_Names or Ignore_Names, when you are helping them find the option. I would probably consider moving the mechanism to a more general one where you could ignore polygons, components, tracks, vias, ....
