gEDA-user: earlier problem solved, geda xinstall feedback

Something stopped make xinstall from completing at the geda-gschem-20040111
module, so I started the top level makefile method, and still had trouble as non su,
then I started running make install as root and also using  --with-gtk12 --prefix=/opt/geda
and I got a good build and my trouble with characters spaced out went away.

The confirming outputs after make install (see below)are not visible when running xinstall...that would 
be a good feature to add.   

If xinstall could use the already downloaded tarballs that match the latest ones it would aid in debugging 
xinstall, since time is of the essence...
