If you run debian the apt-get install epstool is your solution. Read more on

I used epstool in an earlier version to get cadence composer generated 
postscript into framemaker on a PC with very good success. I haven't tested 
with openoffice, but word was ok. The current version of epstool look a lot 
more powerful.
