gEDA-user: New-install ? dbus-launch
I'm having considerable problems running
geda, gschem, or pcb. [Altho' I first wanted to just 'see'
spice, which I found isn't even in the massive package].
A major problem is that over the years of linux usage,
I've always logged in as root. The need to login as non-root
creates a whole layer of extra complications.
A further complication is that, because the package is so big,
I've installed it at /mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2 -- it's own partition.
Here's the accumulation of my log & notes:-------
> Run the ./install.sh
== Enter install directory (default: /root/geda-0.0.2)?
>> first mkdir geda-0.0.2 in hda12
enter: /mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2 == ?! ./install.sh exits !
/mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2 already exists. Please remove it and rerun this script
== Create /mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2 (default: y)?
== Verifying files...
Performing post install setup...
Done! <---- apparently installed OK ?
======= my non-root ID is eas ===========
?? try, as eas cd /mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2/bin and run the appropriate binaries
(such as geda, gschem, or pcb)
> try: ./geda == error...is not owned by eas
? try change ownership of /mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2/ to 'eas'
== mc chO..shows: group & owner already = eas.
BUT bin-link 'geda' is owned by root == Change it!
== op. not permitted == do as root. Still fail.
======= log of new attempt 10 Jan :--
as eas cd /mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2/bin
do: ./geda == $ ./geda
ls: /tmp/dbus-gedasuite-0.0.2/bin/dbus-launch: No such file or directory
/tmp/dbus-gedasuite-0.0.2/bin/dbus-launch is not owned by eas,
not executing /mnt/mul/geda-0.0.2/bin/python
Please install the gEDA Suite for multiple users. <--- drop-dead !!
=======
I guess 'dbus' is not creating the tmp-file?
mc shows that the ELF-executable: dbus-launch & its dir ARE
owner & group = eas.
BTW. I put an extra trace-line in one of the scripts, which I
can't relocate right now. Perhaps it's the line:
ls: /tmp/dbus-gedasuite-0.0.2/bin/dbus-launch: No such file or directory
Please advise how I should proceed.
== Chris Glur.
