gEDA-user: design pack

Hi,
        To use a directory structure to work with gEDA and store the
different kind of files gEDA generate (pcb files, symbols,
footprints,models, etc) seems a smart way to work, but to make the work
easier I'l like to know if there is a way  of extract the footprints and
symbols (the .sym and footprint element) from a schematic file and copy
that elements to some local directory with the purpose of be able to
share your job with all the symbols and footprints included, that way
assuring the person who's looking your schematics sees the same thing
you see ?
