That's just a window showing the nets explicitly.  You may find it
helpful, or distracting depending on what kind of design you're doing.  I
usually close that window too.  But it's good to know about when you go to
double-check your work, and to sort out problems in your design.

hit the 'O' and 'E' keys to turn on/off rats nest.

You'd be wise to read the PCB Quick Reference.  It has all of the
keystrokes.  When you learn them, using PCB becomes a real pleasure.
