     Using your project symbols as capsules for that data is convenient
     and easy. The error is using the library symbols directly: that's a
     bad idea for all of the same reasons you shouldn't put vendor
     information into the schematic, and more.

   I agree it can be convenient. It is more convenient for me
   to change vendors using a few lines of SQL rather than a
   script that updates project symbols across multiple projects.
   It is also easier to query when all of the data is in tables.
