I would suggest using the version found at sourceforge.net .   Do a 
search for PCB and its the first project that pops up.
It is version 1.99o I think. It seems very stable and I have made pcbs 
with components on both sides.

With 1.99o you select the device then from the menu   select-> move 
selcected elemts to other side
